The key point
A quiet product is a question to investigate. Separate feed issues, limited demand and deliberate exclusions from credible opportunities before adding campaign activity.
First, check whether the products can show
Start with a defined catalogue, market and review period. Match Merchant Center product IDs to your campaign reporting so variants and markets are not accidentally counted as separate opportunities.
Google separates product visibility from approval status. Check the relevant market and Shopping ads eligibility, then investigate limited or unapproved products in Merchant Center’s Needs attention area. A product blocked from serving is a data or policy task before it is a campaign opportunity.
Look at exposure before judging performance
Use Google Ads product reporting to review impressions, clicks, cost and recorded sales or conversion value. Check campaign inclusion and the search terms or search insights available to you. Low exposure can reflect product data, bidding restrictions, learning or demand; it does not automatically mean your budget is leaving sales behind.
Choose a period that covers the product’s buying cycle and allows for conversion lag. Compare similar products and note when an item was newly added, out of stock or promoted. A handful of clicks is too little evidence to confidently label a product a winner or a failure.
Check whether another sale is worth acquiring
Prioritise products that are available to fulfil and leave enough contribution after product costs, delivery, payment costs, returns and acquisition charges. High revenue alone can hide weak economics. Consider seasonality and expected stock duration before putting a short-lived opportunity on the shortlist.
Use the CPA calculator linked below to test what commission your margin can support. Use realistic assumptions for the proposed products rather than a business-wide average that hides costly categories.
Give each product a clear next step
Create three working groups: fix eligibility or product data, keep excluded for a documented commercial reason, and investigate for additional exposure. This is an audit approach, not a claim that every low-volume product can be sold profitably.
Ask the PPC owner why each exclusion exists before reopening it. Products deliberately removed for poor margin, repeated returns, brand restrictions or weak historical results need a specific reason to be reconsidered.
Turn the shortlist into an agreed campaign scope
Bring the shortlist to a Managed CSS discussion with both your PPC and affiliate programme owners. GMVLY funds and manages its own campaign route alongside your core activity. Agree products, markets, restrictions, tracking, commission and how returns and cancellations are treated before activation.
GMVLY handles its campaign activity; your affiliate manager handles programme administration and network transaction validation. Set a review window using those network outcomes and the retailer’s business data. Review completed attributed sales and commercial contribution alongside your existing activity. Attribution alone does not establish incremental sales, and a long-tail strategy does not guarantee profitable demand.
Tick items as you work through them. Ticks are for this page session and are not saved to your account.
